There would be no late-game collapse for the Warren County Middle School softball team in its second game of the season.
A day after giving up a six-run lead on opening night, the Lady Pioneers came out and scored 11 runs against White County in the first inning en route to picking up a 15-2 victory.
Coach Gooby Martin got a feeling of déja vu as he watched his team pile up runs early against White County.
Against DeKalb County on opening night, Warren County scored six runs in the first inning, but ended up losing 7-6.
The Lady Pioneers didn’t want the same result Tuesday night at home. Warren County batted for over 30 minutes in the first inning as 16 batters went to the plate.
Lindsey Cox started the game with a walk and was followed by a single from Ty Ramirez.
Madison Mason brought around Cox with a single up the middle to make it 1-0.
Emily Webb then drilled  a shot into the left-field gap to score Ramirez and Mason to give the Lady Pioneers a three-run lead. After two errors put Lorren Cannon and Livia Walker on, along with letting Webb come around to score, Bailey Walker drove in another run with a single.
The Lady Pioneers then drew three straight walks, with Ramirez’s free pass bringing in a run and making it 8-0.
Mason got her second RBI single of the inning with the bases loaded to score Bailey Martin and Cox.
Webb also finished the first inning with her second RBI single to make it 11-0 after the first inning.
With a big lead, Emma Holmes went to work on the mound. Despite giving up a run in the second inning, Holmes didn’t allow a hit until the fifth inning as she pitched a complete-game two-hitter to earn the victory.
Warren County scored its final four runs in the fourth inning as Martin added an RBI single and Mason added to her RBI total with a bases-loaded triple.
White County picked up a run in the fifth on two hits, but Holmes closed the game with her third strikeout to even the Lady Pioneers’ record at 1-1.
Warren County won’t play again until Tuesday, when the Lady Pioneers play host to Shelbyville Harris.
The game will be played at Warren County High School softball field and will begin at 5:30 p.m.
