Lady Eagles celebrate eighth-grade night with win

Starting the night on the right foot, the Morrison Lady Eagles fought a close battle with Eastside during Morrison’s eighth-grade night celebration. With a steady stream of inside shots, Morrison defeated the Lady Bulldogs, 44-35.“We played solid defense and rebounded well,” said Morrison coach Kyle Cannon. “I was glad the eighth-graders went out with a win on their last home game.”Playing tough defense all season, the pressing, hands-up defense of the Lady Eagles helped Morrison outscore the Lady Bulldogs in all but the third quarter.Morrison’s Brielee Kelsey headed up the Lady Eagle scoring with a game-high 15 points, followed by Gabby Monzon with 12 and Lia Wright with 10.Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs was Emeri Cummings with 10 points, Clara Brackley with 7 and Shelby Smartt and Savannah Winfree both hit for 6 points.Also scoring for Morrison were Cassie Ross with 4 points and Lexie Whipple 3.Eastside players to add to the total were Kacie Newby, Dallis Melton and Sara Grace Vinson, all with 2 points each.Tournament action begins Monday, Jan. 30 with times and brackets TBA.
