Lady Bulldogs stay unbeaten
Eastside Lady Bulldog Savannah Winfree, right, goes for two over top of Warren County Middle School Lady Pioneer Samantha McCormick.

The Eastside Lady Bulldogs were serious about staying unbeaten Tuesday as they handed the WCMS Lady Pioneers their first loss, 48-23, in 5-6 grade basketball action at Eastside.
Lady Bulldog Sable Winfree was on fire, scoring 10 points during a 19-3 first-quarter lead over the Lady Pioneers. When the halftime buzzer sounded, the WCMS girls faced a 32-8 deficit and they couldn’t dig themselves out.
“I’m really proud of them,” said Eastside coach Shae Hodges. “They gave it all and that’s all I can ask of them.”
Eastside scored first and often, grabbing rebounds and turnovers for more opportunities. The Lady Pioneers waited too long to respond, having their best showing in the third quarter with 10 points.
Warren County Middle School’s Kyra Perkins was pressing for turnovers and found some, scoring 6 of the team’s 10 points in the third. The Lady Pioneers couldn’t really find much more and Perkins was team-high scorer with 11 points.
Scoring for Eastside were a bunch of Lady Bulldogs led by Sable Winfree with 16 points, Shelby Smartt had 13, Emeri Cummings hit for 10 points, Emma Cordell was good for 5, and Savannah Winfree scored 4 points.
Also scoring for the Lady Pioneers were Bella Bain, Rosa Terrazas, and Kinslee Grissom, all with 4 points apiece.
The Lady Pioneers played the Bobby Ray Lady Stars Thursday, while Eastside played host to Dibrell. Results were not available at press time.
