The Lady Broncos are coming together at the perfect time.

Boyd pushed its way into second in the Middle Tennessee Athletic Conference Tuesday night with a 43-15 win over Community Christian at home.

Kapri Talley outscored the visiting Lady Colts on her own, tallying 24 points to lead Boyd to a 4-2 conference record. Lexi Loader and Candace Woodruff added six points apiece as the Lady Broncos dominated.

Coach Brent Warren saw his team struggle through the early part of the schedule. His hope was for the team to peak before tournament time and Tuesday was a big step in the right direction.

“We played as a team. I was pleased with our intensity,” said Warren. “There are still a lot of things we need to improve on, but we played with fire and speed. I thought we did a much better job pushing up the court and moving the ball.”

Talley was the focal point early, scoring nine of her team’s first 12 points. Her versatility was on display as she scored over people in the paint and also stepped out to hit a 3-pointer.

With the top option rolling, Warren saw the rest of the team fall into their roles.

“Offensively, several stepped up. I thought our guard play was much better,” said Warren. “Between Lexi, Candace, Zoe (Witty) and Ryleigh (Rankin), they had 19 points. We need that out of them every night.

“Overall, we took a step in the right direction. We just need to keep going in that direction.”

Witty finished with five points in the victory, while Rankin had two.

The Lady Broncos will be back in action at home Monday, Jan. 28 against Covenant Academy. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
