Friday night, Boyd Christian’s Lady Broncos volleyball hosted the Bradley Knights from Cleveland, and Boyd swept the visitors in three straight sets.

Boyd Christian dominated the first two sets, 25-5, 24-9, but the visiting crowd became very boisterous which appeared to motivate the visiting team in the third set.

The Lady Broncos fell behind by as many as 8 points in the final third set, 15-7. Showing determination, Boyd slowly climbed back into the set, tying the score at 17-17. The tied score did not discourage the Knights’ crowd, which only became louder toward the end of the set. Boyd never trailed after the 17-17 tie, and won the third set, 25-22.

After the match, assistant coach Kristen Ferrell said, “I think they were motivated to beat us because we had some good plays in the first two sets. I think their crowd motivated them a lot in the third set. It caused us to talk louder so that we could communicate better with each other. We have good servers such as Krista Chisam. I think we did great as a team. Tonight’s win was our second win of the season. We are 2-3 overall.”

Lady Bronoco Lia Wright spoke about the crowd and her feelings about volleyball after the match was over. Wright said, “The other team’s parents got louder in the third set, and I think it got in our heads. I love volleyball. It is so much more fun than basketball. It is not as serious.”

The Lady Broncos play at home Monday against Riverside Christian at 6 p.m.
