The Warren County High School freshman/JV football team took the show on the road for Monday night football and remained undefeated with a 16-6 victory over the Red Raiders of Coffee County.
“We struggled the first of the game,” said Warren County head coach Paul Martin. “But the players persevered and found a way to win.”
The Red Raiders drove right down to the Pioneers red zone to first and goal. Warren County would have none of that as Pioneer Ethan Cowan stripped the ball and ran 99 yards downfield for the TD. Josh Macanas added 2 points for the conversion and Warren County was up 8-0 midway through the first half.
Coffee County scored on its next possession but missed converting and it remained 8-6 at halftime.
The second half was a defensive battle until Macanas, with six minutes left in the game, scored on a 48-yard rush. This time it was Tre Ladet adding the 2-point conversion, 16-6. Ladet went on to seal the deal when he intercepted a Coffee County pass with just 1:20 remaining on the clock.
