The Morrison Lady Eagles got off the ground but not high enough and they could not escape from the Lady Tigers. Irving College unleashed its ferocious offense and defeated the Lady Eagles, 48-20 last Thursday.
Hannah Lee shot from everywhere on the court and led all scorers with a game-high 25 points.
It was apparent after the first quarter it was going to be a long night for the Lady Eagles. Lee led the offense and she connected twice from inside the 3-point line and once from behind it. She dropped seven of the 18 first-quarter points for Irving College.
Emily Fults went to work on the Morrison defense and she added six points and helped extend the lead. Kenley Cathcart and Jillian Frankman combined for five points and rounded out the scoring in the first quarter.
Morrison spent so much time on defense, it left little time for offense. The Lady Tigers pounced at every opportunity and shots were very limited for Morrison. Alexis Cory slipped through and got open just long enough to connect for the only two points for Morrison and the Lady Eagles trailed 18-2 after one.
The Lady Tigers continued their pressure and Lee continued to have the hot hand for Irving College. She improved over her first-quarter total and added nine more in the second quarter.
The Lady Eagles improved slightly but still had a long way to go. Cierrah Baker found an open spot on the floor just long enough to connect for two points. Reagan Whitlock and Brielee Kelsey combined on 2-of-4 from the free-throw line. By the half, the game was pretty well out of reach as Morrison trailed 31-6.
Morrison continued to improve each of the two remaining quarters. Whitlock added points in each of the last two periods and Kelsey came through in the third. Jasmine Cantrell and Chelsea Martin knocked down one free throw each in the final quarter and Allie Childers scored before time expired.
Lee matched her second-quarter total and added another nine points for the Lady Tigers. Lee dialed up from long distance and connected before she took a seat on the bench.
Frankman provided all the offense in the fourth period for Irving College. It was just more offense than Morrison had faced and the Lady Eagles were defeated, 48-20.
