With two players fouling out, one player getting hurt, and a warning for coach Chris Perry, Boyd Christian fought to the last second at home Tuesday night.

Down to only three players in the fourth quarter, Boyd just couldn’t hold off the Eagles in a close game against Grace Academy. The Broncos suffered a hard-fought 63-57 loss.

Christian Rogers led Boyd with 22 points, followed by Jace Oliver with 16.

Starting rough for Boyd, Grace took a quick lead in the first quarter, 22-9.

Scoring 6 points each, Jace Oliver and Christian Rogers lead Boyd to a closer game with a halftime score of 30-24 in favor of Grace.

The second half was a fight to the finish and a war of attrition for Boyd. The Broncos sunk a few 3-pointers and Rogers made every free throw to gain the lead by the end of the third quarter.

By the fourth quarter, Cain Buckner had fouled out. Meanwhile, Rogers suffered an injury on the court causing Boyd to be down one player and play with only four.

This led to clutch player Jordan Perry to create a couple turnovers and baskets for Boyd.

Rogers reentered the game seeming to brush off the pain. Cameron Chilcutt fouled out soon thereafter, leaving the team down a player once more. Cramping again, Rogers had to exit for a second time, leaving the last few minutes to Oliver, Perry and Sam Page.

Grace took possession of the ball in the last couple seconds, and Grace’s Pierce Smith banked a halfcourt shot at the buzzer. Although they lost, Boyd has no reason to be disappointed having played incredible defense and kept their heads up even when outnumbered.
