Warren County football assistant coach Ben Matheny goes over the finer points of blocking with the 2017 prospective Pioneer squad during offseason practice Wednesday.

WCHS football coach Tom Moore has announced a free youth football camp to be held at the high school field on Wednesday, May 31 and Thursday, June 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. each evening.
“We need to encourage more kids to participate in football in this county,” said Moore. “There is a direct correlation of the size and quality of our youth program to the success of our football program at the high school. We have some really good people in the youth program now. We just need to get more kids interested in playing football.”
It will be a two-day camp to work with kids ages 7-13 to work on the fundamentals of football. Moore stated representatives and coaches from the Warren County Youth Football League would be at the camp facilitating sign-ups.
Moore stressed the importance of the youth program for the success of the middle school and high school programs. Moore said the varsity team will be working out in the afternoons May 31 and June 1 so several of the Pioneers can be at the camp which will begin immediately after the Pioneers workouts are over.
“I am inviting anyone who has an interest in football to come out to our camp. All of our varsity coaches will be working the camp,” Moore said.
There will be no pads and no contact in the football camp and all participants need to bring cleats.
The Pioneers will play an inter-squad scrimmage game Friday night at Nunley Stadium. Admission is free and it will be an early “first look” at the 2017 Pioneer team. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
