Farm Bureau ensures win

An action-packed Thursday night in the 9-10 boys junior league at Sam Martin Field has highlighted by big wins for Farm Bureau and Jim’s Locksmith.
Farm Bureau began play Thursday with a 12-2 win over Homeland Bank, while Jim’s Locksmith ended the three-game slate by defeating Homeland 17-6.
An eight-run fifth inning by Farm Bureau helped enact the run rule in the first game of junior-league play.
Brennan Keaton ignited the rally with a two-run, inside-the-park home run and Gage Walker ended the game with a walk-off double that scored three runs and put Farm Bureau up 10 in the bottom of the fifth.
Brady McCormick was the beneficiary of the offensive explosion as he earned the win on the mound. McCormick pitched four innings before giving way to Keaton in the fifth, who nailed down the save.
Walker led Farm Bureau with three hits. Ben Rivers, Tony Curtis and Lane Blackwell added two hits apiece. Keaton, Will Rivers, Dakota Gibbs, and Kaleb Bell chipped in one hit each.
Carter Mansfield took the loss for Homeland as he pitched the entire game. Justin Brantley had two hits for Homeland, while Jace Brantley and Dakota Melton added one hit apiece.
Homeland took one game off, then returned to the field to play Jim’s Locksmith.
Jim’s Locksmith was locked in at the plate as the team scored five runs in the second, third and fourth innings to hand Homeland its second loss by run rule.
Jack Keele led the offensive charge as the clean-up hitter finished with two doubles, one triple and an inside-the-park grand slam in the fourth inning. Keele finished the game with eight RBIs.
Clay Eckenrod, Noah Martin and Andres Perez added two hits each for Jim’s Locksmith, while Jamison Brock, Kylan Rhea, Skylar Pack and Rylan Rhea chipped in one hit apiece.
Bryce Redmon, who walked four times and scored four runs, was the winning pitcher. Keele and Eckenrod pitched in relief.
Mansfield, Justin Brantley, John Garrett and Hayden Lytle had one hit each for Homeland.
In other junior-league action, Foodland Plus defeated Subway 6-1.
Eli Jones racked up 12 strikeouts and sparked a six-run fourth inning by stealing home to help Foodland Plus keep its winning streak alive.
Foodland Plus trailed 1-0 entering the fourth, but Jones reached on a walk and proceeded to steal three bases to tie the game. Six straight walks helped Foodland Plus score three more runs, then Jacob Lann’s two-run double put the team ahead for good.
Jones struck out the final six batters to nail down the victory.
Lann finished with two hits to lead Foodland Plus. Dawson Waldron and Brady Gross added singles in the first inning.
Jared Scruggs, Braedon Bottoms and Christian Espinoza had two hits each for Subway.
