Isabella Pitts and the Lady Pioneers picked up an easy victory at home Monday against Cumberland County. The Lady Jets brought just two players and WCHS won all three matches played at David Dunlap Tennis Complex.

The Lady Pioneers have made a lot of wins look easy lately, but Monday was a whole new level the WCHS girls tennis team. The group knew before matches even started they had picked up a win against Cumberland County.

The Jets brought just two players to the match, leading to WCHS winning 6-of-9 planned sets via forfeit. When the games on the court did start, the Lady Pioneers took care of business too.

Isabella Pitts and Susanna Netherton teamed to win the lone doubles set 8-2, while Abby Graves and Elizabeth Templos each picked up wins in singles.

Graves had quite a duel in No. 1 singles, winning a tiebreaker after battling to a 8-8 stalemate in a back-and-forth set. Templos won her singles set with ease, 8-2.

Warren County has been able to mix and match its talent on the girls side the last few tourneys, searching for the strongest doubles lineup to back up a solid and deep group of singles players. Pitts and Netherton have continued to build chemistry as a duo.

They were an instant success as they took turns smashing winners against the Jets. The solid play set the tone for an easy day, one where Warren County picked up its third straight clean sweep of an opponent (Warren County downed Livingston Academy and DeKalb County 10-0 last week in matchups).

Warren County had hoped to follow up with a big win over Sparta Tuesday, but the match was postponed to Monday, April 15 due to rain. The makeup match will be played at David Dunlap Tennis Complex.

Both the Pioneers and Lady Pioneers are hoping to be able to play against Upperman at home Thursday, weather permitting. Coach Matt Jackson announced that the team will be celebrating senior night either way, with festivities planned around 5 p.m. if there is a rain out. If the match is played, the seniors will be recognized following doubles matchups with the Bees.
