The Morrison Eagles had a noticeable size advantage and Boyd has been faced with this scenario all season. From the beginning of the season, the Broncos have not been able to figure out how exactly to attack their opponents and the Eagles took flight early and never came back down.
Morrison flew away with a 48-9 win over the Broncos. Tyler Dunn led the Eagles and he netted a game-high 12 points.
Despite the score, the Broncos kept coming. There is no quit in Boyd.
The Eagles covered the floor in the first and applied a relentless amount of pressure on the ball. All paths to the basket were blocked. The Broncos, who did get in close enough, were sent to the free-throw line. Adam Pistole hit 1-of-2 from the charity stripe and he was the sole source of offense in the first period for Boyd.
The Eagle guards were quick to pass the ball inside and the Morrison post players had their scoring game on. Dunn started the game with six of his 12 points. With much of the defense packing the paint inside, a quick pass back outside and Hunter Musgrave buried a deep 3-pointer.
Morrison soared to a quick 18-1 lead after the first quarter.
Morrison backed off slightly in the second quarter. Chino Martinez was able to get off a shot that found the bottom of the net. Most of the Morrison bigs took a break and were seated on the bench for the second quarter. A pair of Broncos, Dyllon Young and Nathan Turner, found their way inside and boosted the offense in the second quarter.
Morrison led 20-5 at the half.
The second half was a reflection of the first half and Morrison extended its lead to 34-7. Defensively, Boyd did not have an answer for the Eagle offense. Nothing seemed to work.
In the final quarter Morrison pulled back its defensive pressure. A pair of Eagles, Lorenzo Hernandez and Jadin Watkins, dropped in baskets in the final quarter.
Boyd was at the mercy of the Eagles and as time ticked off the clock Connor Andrews found his way in close enough to record a basket.
At the final buzzer Morrison defeated Boyd, 48-9.
