Hall's Backhoe remains unbeaten

The combination of Ashton Whiles’ pitching and the hitting of Emily Mikkola and Lexie Chadwell has proved to be unbeatable thus far for Hall’s Backhoe in the girls 11-13 senior league.
Whiles had another dominating performance in the circle Tuesday night at Pete Holt Field while Mikkola and Chadwell combined for seven hits in an 14-1 victory over Tennessee Warehouse. The win pushed Hall’s Backhoe into the league lead with a perfect 3-0 record while Tennessee Warehouse fell to 0-3.
The game was the second between two squads this season – Hall’s Backhoe won the first 10-0. In the first meeting, Whiles threw a no-hitter to get her season started on the right foot. Not much changed in the rematch.
Whiles allowed only two hits – both by Kassie McCarty – while striking out seven and nearly throwing her second shutout of the season. Helping Whiles earn her third victory of the season was the abundance of run support she received.
Hall’s Backhoe piled up 14 hits against Tennessee Warehouse, including Chadwell finishing the night 4-for-4 with six RBIs. For the season, Chadwell is a perfect 8-for-8 in three games.
Mikkola started the scoring in the top of the first inning with a RBI triple that brought home Grace Rains. Chadwell followed with her first of four hits – a triple blasted to the right-field fence. Hall’s Backhoe would go on to add two more runs in the first inning on RBI singles by Sara Ruiz and Alyssa Jones.
Chadwell came through with another triple in the second inning, this time scoring Mikkola and Whiles. Chadwell would score on a groundout by Kansas Hennessee late in the second to push Hall’s Backhoe in front 8-0.
A run-scoring double by Whiles and a RBI single by Chadwell in the third inning pushed the lead into double figures.
Hall’s Backhoe put the final touches on its third win with four more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Hennessee started the frame with a single. Jones, Rains, Whiles, Mikkola and Chadwell followed with singles of their own off Tennessee Warehouse reliever Linley Wanamaker to push the lead to 14-0.
Tennessee Warehouse was able to plate a run in the bottom of the fourth when Payton Youngblood reached on a walk and scored on a RBI single by McCarty. Tennessee Warehouse wasn’t able to score more though as the game ended by run rule.
Taylor Pegg took the loss as she pitched the first two innings for Tennessee Warehouse. Pegg and Wanamaker each had three strikeouts in the contest while Whiles’ seven Ks gave her 17 this season.
Girls senior league action continues Friday night when Letitia Lane Photography (2-0) takes on Ben Lomand Connect (0-2) at 5:30 p.m. on Pete Holt Field.
