The showdown of undefeated girls teams went Dibrell’s way Thursday night as Marlee Smith scored 13 points and Macayla Ferrell added 10 to propel the Lady Wildcats to a home-court victory.
Dibrell was able to extend a two-point halftime lead with an explosive third quarter in earning a 36-27 win over Eastside.
Ferrell and Smith entered the game as two of the top scorers in the girls elementary league and they continued to be hard to stop. Ferrell was especially big during Dibrell’s decisive run.
With the Lady Wildcats holding a 16-14 halftime lead, Ferrell scored six points in the third quarter to help Dibrell extend the lead to 31-20 entering the fourth.
Defensively, Dibrell was able to bottle up Eastside star Lanae Hodge, who entered the game as the No. 2 scorer in the league with a 12.6 average. Coming off a 17-point performance in her last outing, Hodge was held to six points.
Eastside’s Jayden Smith picked up the scoring load and finished with a team-high 11 points. Other Eastside scorers were Shyenne Blanton and Olivia Ming with three points each, and Rylan Moore and Alli Hollandsworth with two each.
Rounding out the scoring for Dibrell were Sianna Womack with eight and Emma Holmes with five.
Dibrell improves to 7-0 with the win and is scheduled to remain at home for its next game against Centertown on Monday night.
The loss drops Eastside to 5-1. The Lady Bulldogs will stay at home for a rematch with Dibrell this Tuesday.
