The Lady Lions of Covenant Academy defeated the Daniel 1 Lady Lions from Cookeville on Monday.
It was exciting volleyball at the Covenant Academy gym. The Covenant Lady Lions showed some real fortitude in the second game. The Lady Lions lost the first game and were down deep in the second. But coach Chris Madewell’s team came from a deep deficit and rallied to win.
The match was even at 1-1 when Covenant Academy had some good serves and strong play to win the third game decisively.
After the match, coach Madewell said, “The first game we came out a little slow. We let them get ahead. We almost came back and won. The second game was tight, and it was a two-point game (victory). The girls fought hard. It is good to have a game like that when you fight hard and come out on top. We have fought hard and come out on the bottom sometimes. We played solid at the end. Lots of good serves in the third set. We played up to our ability.”
Boyd Christian was Covenant Academy’s second opponent. Covenant won that match 2-0. Boyd Christian then played Daniel 1 and lost in two sets. Social distancing required that one of the three teams was not present in the gym. Teams rotated out of the gym as they played each other.
Covenant’s next match is a home Thursday against Highland Rim.
Boyd Christian’s next match is Thursday at home against Clarksville Christian.
