Matthew Davis competes in the men’s A singles division Friday in the Security Federal Tennis Tournament.

Facing some of the toughest competition in the entire tournament, Justin Winton smashed his way to a championship Saturday in the Security Federal Tennis Tournament at McMinnville Civic Center.

Winton won the men’s A singles division in dominating fashion. He didn’t lose a game in his final two matches.

“Every time he’s played here in A singles, he’s won every time,” said tournament organizer David Dunlap. “He’s really a great player. He used to be the No. 1 for Coffee County.”

All matches were played in 8-game, pro-set format. Winton beat Bryce Caten 8-0 in the championship after defeating Matthew Davis 8-0 in the semifinals.

The three-day tournament began Thursday night with 87 participants in 13 categories. Saturday was the day to crown champions in each division.

In the top women’s classification, A singles, Mamie Sevier claimed the top spot with an 8-2 win over Laurel Tipps.
