KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Forward Ray Kasongo is leaving the Tennessee men's basketball team after one season.
Tennessee coach Rick Barnes confirmed Thursday that Kasongo "is going to leave, and he's got some different options out there."
Kasongo played 22 games as a sophomore this past season and averaged 1.4 points, 1.5 rebounds and 5.5 minutes. The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 6.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game in 2014-15 at College of Southern Idaho.
Although he is from Canada, Kasongo graduated from Pikeville (Kentucky) High School and attended prep school at Phase 1 Academy in Phoenix.
Kasongo's departure leaves Tennessee with an open scholarship for the 2016-17 season. Barnes said that "we would use it in the right situation, and we are looking at some different situations right now."
