City baseball leagues for dummies

The dummy is this sports reporter who is trying to learn the leagues that the city of McMinnville operates at the ball fields. The following is an overview of the leagues.


Terry Beard in the athletic coordinator for the city baseball leagues that are in full swing at the city ballfields. There are approximately 350 to 360 kids on 32 teams.

The support staff includes 15 umpires and 12 scorekeepers. Team sponsors pay $250 to help support the league. Players pay a $40 fee for 3-6-year-old leagues, and the fees are $50 for coach-pitch and other leagues. The city provides and maintains the fields, pays the staff, and provides shirts for each team member.


Girls play on Mondays and Thursdays. Boys play on Tuesdays and Fridays. There is an adult co-ed softball league that will start soon on Wednesdays.

There are six teams in the 3-4-year-old co-ed T-Ball league. The teams are:

• A-Plus Farmers

• Farm Credit Mid-America

• Homeland Community Bank

The 5-6 year-old girls coach-pitch league has three teams. They are:

• Barr’s Furniture

• Security Federal

The 7-9 year-old girls coach-pitch league has four teams. They are:

• Wholesale Warehouse

• Tennessee Warehouse

• Volunteer Pools

• Champion Chevrolet

The boys 5-6 year-old coach-pitch league has five teams. They are:

• Pure Wealth

• Leann Cordell/ Edward Jones

• Solomon Consultants

• Smart Solutions


The 7-8 coach-pitch league has seven teams. They are:

• Panter Nursery

• Outdoor Shop

• Solomon Consultants

• MPC Signs

• Fully Loaded Firearms

• First National Bank

• Chance Von Dette

The 9-10 year-old boys kid-pitch league has three teams. They are:

• Citizens Tri-County Bank

• Brent’s Computer Services

• Bottoms Heating & Air

The 11-12 year-old boys kid-pitch leagues has three teams. They are:

• Custom Collision

• Moose Lodge 172

• Tree City Realty

There is a senior league for older boys which is unofficially called “Babe Ruth” that is part of the Middle Tennessee Youth Baseball league. McMinnville is in the league with DeKalb County, Cookeville, Baxter, Livingston, and White County. 

McMinnville will hold the state tournament for this league July 9-10.
