Playing host to Hickory Creek’s Lady Hawks, Centertown’s Lady Warriors defended their home court with a 21-6 win Tuesday night as the 5-6 grade basketball tournament looms on the horizon Dec. 8 at Irving College.Jumping off to a 12-2 halftime lead they would never relinquish, the Lady Warrior offense kept up a steady stream of buckets led by game-high scorer Madison Johnson who tallied a total of 14 points.Trying to press in the backcourt, the Hickory Creek defense fed the Lady Warriors free throws as the team shot 7-of-14 while giving none away.Also scoring for the Lady Warriors were Krista Chisam with 3 points, Liberty Simmons 2 and Alyssa Mosley and Emma Miller both hit for 1 point.The Lady Hawks split their offense between Paige Sweeton, Isabella Pennington and Aleah Davis all with 2 points apiece. Centertown’s Warriors defeated the Hickory Creek Hawks, 22-15, on their own turf Tuesday on the playoff hunt for a top-three seed in the postseason tournament beginning Dec. 8 at Irving College.Coming back from a 12-9 halftime deficit, the Warriors went wild on offense led by Aiden Miller with 8 points, followed by Ashton Griffith and Baler Melton with 6 and 5 points, respectively.Centertown’s D stepped up and held the Hawks to 3 points in the second half while the Warriors tallied 13 to recover and win the contest.Also scoring for Centertown was Tyler Adams with 3 points.Hitting hoops for the Hawks were Alex Van Vuuren with 4 points, Cameron Perry 3, and Brett Cantrell, Easton Denning, Brody Womack and Andrew Key all with 2 points apiece.
