John Brock was dominant in Monday's matchup between WCMS and White County. Brock threw a one-hitter as the Pioneers slammed Sparta 7-0 at home for their fifth win.

When John Brock got the ball to start Monday's game, he had plans to never give it up. Nobody was going to take it from him once he started mowing down Sparta's lineup.

Brock was phenomenal on the bump for the WCMS Pioneers, firing a complete-game, one-hitter to lead his squad to a 7-0 victory. It improved Warren County to 5-4 this season and completed a sweep of the Warrriors.

Brady Norris highlighted the Pioneer offense, which gave Brock plenty of early run support. Norris had two hits, including a solo homer to start the second as the Pioneers went up 7-0 in the first two frames and never faltered late.

"It was the most sound game of baseball I have seen in a while," said coach Chad Young. "We had very solid offense and defense from everyone. We are very proud of these guys and their performance the last couple of games."

Brock usually spends his time behind the plate for the Pioneers, but the coaching staff wanted to give the hard-throwing righty a chance to show his stuff on the mound. He made the most of it, living in the strike zone as didn't surrender a walk, struck out three and needed just 60 pitches to face just two more than the minimum over seven innings.

"Johnny hit his spots. He was very comfortable on the mound. If they hit the ball, we caught it and got the out. Coach (Logan) Underhill made a great call to give him the start and he set the bar for the whole game," said Young.

Patience at the plate by the Pioneers made sure Brock pitched wiht the lead the whole way. Warren County got two free runs in the first when Daylen Holguin was hit with a pitch with the bases juiced and Huck Damon was able to take home on a passed ball. Coupled with an RBI groundout by Preston McAbee, the Pioneers swiftly jumped out in front 3-0.

Norris kept the offense rolling on the second pitch of the second inning. The team's talented lead-off hitter showed he's not just at the top of the order because of his speed. He packs plenty of power too.

Norris walloped a 0-1 pitch over the left-field fence for his first homer, one his coaches knew was coming at some point.

"Brady's home run was just a matter of time. He's been hitting the ball very, very well," said Young.

The long ball was followed by four straight singles by Braden Whinnery, Ryder Gilispie, McAbee and Damon, with the last one plating the team's fifth run.

Warren County added another run on an error before Holguin made it 7-0 with a single into right to cap a big second inning.

The Pioneers didn't plate anymore runs from there, but Brock didn't need anymore help.

He took a perfect game all the way into the seventh inning, but an error to start the final frame ended the bid at perfection. The next batter broke up the no-hitter, singling into right as White County put runners on the corners with no outs.

Brock bounced back magnificantly, retiring the next three batters with ease to end the game.

Warren County will be back in action next Monday, April 10 at Grundy County.
