Boyd senior Joel Smith soars to the basket for two of his six points in the fourth quarter. The Broncos cut the deficit to one point, but could never take the lead against Daniel 1 Academy on Tuesday night.

Jordan Hoover was draining 3-pointers. Christian Rogers was ruling the paint and Boyd's defense was generating turnovers.

It looked like the Boyd Broncos might pull off a miraculous comeback Tuesday during Senior Night, cutting the deficit to 49-48 with just over a minute left.

But Daniel 1 Academy would score the final 10 points to earn a 59-48 victory and spoil the last home game for eight Boyd seniors.

Daniel 1 Academy jumped out to a 10-0 lead and the Broncos spent the rest of the game playing catch-up. The Broncos never could take the lead.

"It was a case where our shots weren't falling and we made some uncharacteristic mistakes," said Boyd coach Chris Perry of the slow start. "Defensively, we did a good job holding them to right at 20 points in the first half, but we couldn't score. We were getting the shots we wanted but they just didn't fall."

Daniel 1 Academy held a 21-13 halftime lead before Boyd cranked up its offense in the second half. Rogers led the Broncos with a team-high 14 points.

Colton Nichols of Daniel 1 Academy was the game-high scorer with 27 points, a career high.

Boyd fell behind 10-0 after suffering through poor shooting and a rash of turnovers in the early going. The Broncos used their press to create turnovers and gradually began to climb back into the game.

Brayden Scott provided a spark for Boyd when he drained a 3-pointer at the third-quarter buzzer to cut the lead to 32-23.

The Broncos firmly seized momentum midway through the fourth quarter when Rogers grabbed a rebound and went coast-to-coast for a basket to make it a 43-36 game.

Boyd continued to fight as Hoover connected on a high-arching 3-pointer and Joel Smith made two foul shots. Suddenly it was a 49-43 game.

Hoover hit another 3-pointer to make it a 49-46 game before Rogers pulled up for a 7-footer in the lane to cut the margin to 49-48. The crowd went wild, but it would be the last points Boyd would score.

Daniel 1 Academy made its foul shots down the stretch to hold on for victory.

Other Boyd scorers were Scott with 8, Jalyn Mart with 7, Hoover and Smith with 6 each, Jamison Brock with 5 and Bryson Stiles with 2.

Next up for the Broncos is the district tournament next week. Boyd will have a first-round matchup against Riverside Christian in Fayetteville.
