After its 9-1 victory against Burk on the road Saturday, the Boyd Bronco baseball team was back in action Monday night traveling to DeKalb County to take on the DeKalb West Bulldogs.
The Broncos extended their winning streak to eight games with a 2-0 victory over the Bulldogs, putting their overall record at 14-3.
The game didn’t see either team score until the top of the fourth when the Broncos scored two runs and that was the difference in the game.
Hayden Lytle led the charge for the Broncos, going 2-for-2 with two singles and a run scored. Isaiah Owens picked up the win on the mound, going five innings, allowing four hits, and striking out three Bulldogs.
The Broncos had runners on base in the top of the first inning but didn’t see a run cross the plate. Owens sat down the Bulldogs in order in the bottom of the inning, keeping the game scoreless.
Boyd was threatening in the top of the second with the bases loaded, with no outs but still didn’t capitalize on the opportunity to score. The Bulldogs were put down in order by Owens once again and the game remained scoreless through two.
After both sides kept struggling at the plate, failing to produce any runs, the Broncos changed that in the top of the fourth. The Broncos scored on two steals of home by Jace Brantley and Lytle to finally end the scoring drought, 2-0.
That was the only run support Owens needed as he breezed through the Bulldog lineup to help the Broncos prevail, 2-0, in a low-scoring game on the road.
The Broncos will be back at home tomorrow when they play host to LaVergne and look to build on their eight-game winning streak. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
