The Pioneer football team is busy preparing for undefeated Lawrence County this Friday night at Nunley Stadium, and Lawrence County is preparing to contain the state’s No. 2 rusher, C.J. Taylor.
The official stats of the TSSAA is MaXpreps, which lists Taylor at No. 2 with 507 yards. The top rusher in the state has 548 yards and that’s Sebastian Baliles of Copper Basin.
Tickets for the game are available online at https://gofan.co/app/events/88677.
Warren County High School officials are hoping for a big fan turnout to support the 3-0 Pioneers. They note Nunley Stadium is a very large facility where social distancing is possible.
During the Pioneers' one home game thus far this season, a 48-0 win over Cannon County, the stadium did not reach one-third capacity, or about 1,600 fans. But there were extenuating circumstances.
The game was moved up a day to Thursday night in hopes of avoiding severe weather, but it was still a drizzly night, which likely served to keep some fans away.
The football team is asking students and fans to wear red, white, and blue in commemoration of Sept. 11.
