We need a new state law to protect walking horses

TO THE EDITOR:Recently I've noticed two articles in the Southern Standard regarding state laws. One, written by James Clark, was about some of the silly laws our state has passed, and the other was about the Elderly and Vulnerable Adult Protection Act.Speaking of laws, I wish there was one banning the "big lick," that ridiculous looking and painful-to-watch exaggerated gait that Tennessee walking show horses are forced to exercise. All horse are beautiful just the way they are, in their natural state. The "big lick" is about as silly as some of our state laws. The manner in which it is achieved is heart wrenching. Animals matter too.Shirley BrattenBonner RoadMorrison
