TO THE EDITOR:On Monday, April 18, Tennessee Attorney General Herbert Slatery issued a legal opinion saying the transgender bathroom discrimination bill, if enacted, puts $1.1 billion or more in federal funds at risk for K-12 schools and higher education. The bill was wisely withdrawn the next day by the bill’s sponsors Sen. Mike Bell, R-Riceville, and Rep. Susan Lynn, R-Mount Juliet. The executive and judicial leadership rightfully realized the potential financial loss this legislation would have on the state.
