TO THE EDITOR:
New Year’s Resolutions. Most of them involve taking better care of yourself, being a better person, or being smart with finances.
But what if I told you there was something you could do to help you, your family, and the people around you all year long. That thing is being kind.
I believe kindness is one of the most worthwhile and contagious things in the world. Yes, the flu is contagious but we don’t choose to have the flu, but we do choose to be kind.
Kindness is something that is broad enough everyone can do it no matter who you are or how much time you have. A simple act of kindness could range from giving someone a compliment, holding the door open for a stranger, picking up trash, or paying for the person’s meal in line behind you in the drive thru.
Being kind has many health benefits such as reducing stress, lowering blood pressure, and kind people have been shown to age two times slower than the average population.
So, that resolution to look younger doesn’t require beauty products. It may just require a little time to be kind.
We see hate and negativity in our media outlets every day. I believe it’s time we get some kindness in there too. Write a thank you letter to someone, go visit a local nursing home, call up a friend or family member you haven’t talked to in a while, or just simply tell someone how much you love them.
We may not be able to cure world hunger and provide world peace by just you and me being kind, but we could at least get a little closer peace and happiness in the world around us and the beautiful city of McMinnville.
