I joke that I’ve found the fountain of youth. Well, I think I actually found it. I turned 17 again, that’s taking 30 years off. All it took was an invite to a prom for last Saturday night.
When I told one person that joke, they were worried that I had started dating a high school student. Really? I’m 47. I couldn’t help but laugh at that, but it’s a terrible thought. Before you jump to the same conclusion, let me explain. I’ve been dating a teacher – he’s not local so don’t try to figure out which one.
He was drafted to chaperone his school’s prom and invited me to supervise with him. As soon as he asked me, I was instantly 17 years old. I had two days to find a dress, matching shoes, jewelry and figure out how to do my hair.
After all the stress of getting ready, we had fun. I think I had more fun at this prom than I did at mine. Randy said he wasn’t looking forward to chaperoning again but I made it fun. We danced and he dipped me – twice. I haven’t danced with a man in a long time and I’ve never been dipped. It was awesome.
I’m beginning to think that staying young is just a matter of doing fun stuff.
Speaking of fun, I think we should celebrate Cinco de Mayo. It sounds like fun with the costumes and decorations. Cinco de Mayo traditions include parades, mariachi music and street festivals in cities and towns across Mexico and the United States – not here but we should. I listened to a mariachi band once and I discovered a newfound appreciation for them. It was very entertaining.
My live musical entertainment usually comes from Main Street Live summer concert series. I’m liking the lineup of this year’s concerts presented by Main Street McMinnville. In June, it’s Shawn Savage with rock/country, Faithfully with a Journey tribute, and Utopia with R&B. In July, it’s Joe Harvey with Rock, Four on the Floor with a beach party, Davey Smith & the Pearl Snap Preachers with classic country, Flat River Band with Bluegrass, and Alvardo Road Show with country. What I was sad to see if the absence of the 1980s tribute band Bueller from last year. It was awesome. I’m disappointed, but it’s still a pretty good lineup.
I’ve gotten a little bit off track in my train of thought. It happens. Back to being 17 again. That feeling lasted about five days.
As I was walking my dog Friday morning, I didn’t notice this really huge owl perched on the wood fence by the road. Baby noticed it. She lunged, the bird took flight and took with it all the years I lost. I think I might have aged 10 years. If that isn’t bad enough, Baby about jerked me off my feet. I’m sure I’m going to feel that later.
As for the age reduction, easy come and easy go.
