Rock Island resident and Van Buren County native Winton Hillis, 91, was born Jan. 11, 1924 and died May 23 at River Park Hospital following an extended illness.A retired construction worker for J.D. Mullican, a farmer, and a member of Harmony Church of Christ, he was the son of the late A.C. and Mary Mendia Jones Hillis. He was married Sept. 6, 1952 to Audrey B. Dishman Hillis, who preceded him in death April 5, 1987. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by grandson, Allen Hillis; and sister, Winona Hillis.He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and RaAnn Hillis of Dickson, and Bruce and Sarah Hillis of the Rocky River community; two grandsons and spouses, Dusty and Mandy Hillis, and Andrew and Ashley Hillis, all of the Rocky River community; three great-grandchildren, Winton Taylor Hillis, Mackenna Hillis and Ashlynn Hillis; and several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law also survive.Funeral service was held Monday at High’s Chapel with Bob McCoy and Kenneth Mansell officiating.
