William Edward Byrd, 90

McMinnville resident and native William Edward Byrd, 90, died Dec. 15 at Raintree Manor after a brief illness.An machinist with AEDC and TVA and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was the son of the late William J. and Mattie Asmus Byrd and was preceded in death by wife Jill Holland Byrd.During World War II, he served in five campaigns including North Africa, France, Belgium, England and Germany. He was a charter member of VFW Post 5064 and the American Legion and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Dayton.He is survived by nephew, Raymond C. Pike of Geneva, Ohio; several great-nieces and great-nephews; stepchildren, Janie Tenpenny, Ed Whiteaker and wife Debbie of Parrish, Fla.; and in-laws the Holland family.Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at High’s Chapel with Willard Ralph Jr., officiating. Burial will follow at Shellsford Cemetery.
