William Charles Garretson, 81, a McMinnville resident and Viola native, was born April 27, 1931 and died April 17 at River Park Hospital following a brief illness.A self-employed heavy equipment operator, a United States Navy veteran and a member of Central Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Earl Ross and Julia Ann Walker Garretson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Tom and Frank Garretson and sister, Betty Ross Garretson.He was married June 30, 1956 to Barbara Hobbs Garretson, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sister, Grace Fairbanks of Nashville; brother, David (Amy) Garretson of Asheboro, N.C.; several nieces and nephews; and seven great-nieces and five great-nephews.Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at High’s Chapel with Ben Bailey and David Newby officiating.
