Funeral services for Wayne Stanley “Buggar” Colwell, 77, of Manchester will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Welker Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22 at the funeral home. Mr. Colwell died Monday at River Park Hospital.
Mr. Colwell was born in Coffee County, the son of the late James Stanley Colwell and Clyda Wilson Colwell. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He coached Little League and Babe Ruth baseball in the early 1960s. He retired from Duck River Electric Membership Corporation after 31 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was a part-time Church of Christ minister for many years, and was minister at Noah Church of Christ in his later years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Colwell was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Louise Gaultney Colwell; one brother, Buddy Colwell; and an infant sister. He is survived by one daughter, Sherree (Kenneth) Matlock of Manchester; one grandchild, Brian (Daphne) Matlock of Mulberry; one great grandchild, Brody Matlock; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Dean Brandon of Manchester; an aunt, Avis Colwell of Manchester; nephew, Jaime Colwell of Manchester; and two cousins, Dane Colwell and Wilma Blackwell, both of Manchester.
