Virginia Cross Maxwell died June 13 at Erlanger Hospital.
A longtime resident of Warren County, she taught in the public school system for 35 years and at Motlow State Community College for seven years. She was a graduate of Tennessee Tech and earned her master’s degree at MTSU.
Her 94 years exemplified her deep love and devotion for her family, church family, friends, serving her Lord, healthy living and positive thinking. Virginia was an outdoor enthusiast, absorbed the beauty of the earth daily, loved laughter and had a passion for tennis.
Her husband of 70 years, Melvin Eugene Maxwell, preceded her in death, and her parents, Herbert (Red) Cross and Julia May Cross. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Cross Maxwell, a grandson, Jason Daryl Hinds, great-grandson, Oakley Eugene-Russell Hinds, and sister Janice Cross Fitzpatrick of Germantown.
Funeral service will be held at the historic sanctuary at First United Methodist Church on Sunday, June 18, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Tommy Vann and Rev. Robert (Bob) Case officiating. Interment will follow at Algood City Cemetery. The Maxwell family will receive friends Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m., and again Sunday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at McMinnville Funeral Home. Virginia’s family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Good Neighbors Fund at First United Methodist Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Nashville Union Rescue Mission, or to the charity of your choice.
