Vernie A. Arney, 83, of McMinnville died Thursday, Aug. 15 at NHC Healthcare of McMinnville after an extended illness.She was born in Spencer on Dec. 5, 1929, the daughter of the late Rachel C. (Farless) and Earnest U. Hillis. She is the widow of the late Norman R. Arney. She was a homemaker and a member of Unity Church of Christ in Centertown.Vernie is survived by three daughters, Alene, and husband Richard Pedigo of McMinnville, Bonnie K. Arney of McMinnville, Connie F. Arney of McMinnville; and son, Steven G. Arney, of Loudon.She is also survived by one granddaughter, Sierra Pedigo of McMinnville; one step-grandson, Jason Pedigo of Manchester.She was preceded in death by husband Norman R. Arney; parents Earnest U. and Rachel C. (Farless) Hillis; three brothers, Elmer Hillis, Jenry Hillis, Jeptsy Hillis; two sisters, Myrtle Hanes, Eno Hennessee.The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Services will be held at 1 p.m. at Gardens of Memory Funeral Home with Titus Ward and George Kessler officiating.
