Rock Island resident and Van Buren County native Velma Lucille Matheney, 82, was born Sept. 28, 1930 and died Jan. 2 at Raintree Manor Nursing Home following a short illness.A retired seamstress and member of Fall City Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Herman L. and Martha Ethel Mayfield Jones. She was married to Carl Benton Matheney, who preceded her in death in 1996. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by sister Juanita Bouldin and brother Willard Jones.She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Regina Matheney of Rock Island; two grandchildren, Ben Matheney of Rock Island, and Neil Matheney of McMinnville; brother-in-law, John Bouldin of McMinnville; sister-in-law, Wilma Jones of Ohio; special nieces and nephews, Ann and Corker DeLoach of McMinnville, and Bino and Sherry Bouldin of Rock Island, and several other nieces and nephews.Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at High’s Chapel with Joey Spicer and Jackie Matheny officiating.
