SSG Troy Lee LaValley (USA, retired) died Dec. 29 at his home in Morrison. He served his country in war during Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Provide Comfort. He served his world in peace through his charity garden and literary efforts.Troy is survived by Jannett Mairie LaValley, his wife of 28 years; two children Russell Quinn LaValley (Patricia Snyder) and Terrence Rainier LaValley; mother Cheryll Cottrell; brothers Ryan Nutter (Wanda), Ty (Cheryl), and Mickey (Barbara); mother-in law Fran Zarb (David Powelczyk); sisters-in-law Cindy Kruize (Darren), Sandy Martin (Kim), and Carol Cornell (David); and grandchildren Ashlynn and Aleaha Curtis, Cloud and Layne McIver, and Dylan and Evan Dodson; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.Troy is predeceased by his father, SFC Garfield Joseph LaValley (USA, retired); brother Todd LaValley; stepfather Rev. Red Cottrell; and grandparents.A memorial service with military honors will be held at Stone’s River National Battlefield and Cemetery in Murfreesboro at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7.
