Shirley Lee Young, 74, of Rock Island (Rowland Station community) died Saturday, Sept. 22 at River Park Hospital in McMinnville. She was born June 13, 1938, in Pike County, Ky., was a homemaker, and a member of Jericho Church of Christ for 31 years. Born into a family of 18 children, she was preceded in death by 13 siblings, her parents, James G. and Verdie Blackburn Thornsbury, and her husband, Thurston C. Young.Survivors include her children, James Young Sr. and Melissa, Robert and Darlene Young, and Joseph Young; grandchildren, James Young Jr. and (Colleen), Jeffery (Emily) Young, Tracy (Eric) Wells, Tiffany (Chris) Sherrard, Heather (Tyler) Caldwell, step-granddaughter Rhiannon (Jeremy) Barnes; great-grandchildren, Madeline Irene Young, Ashlynn Grace Young, Connor Matthew Wells, Natalie May Wells, Trinity Grace Caldwell, Aiden Skyler Caldwell, and Kealey Marie Caldwell; step great-grandchildren, Devin Knox, Jera Barnes, and Aly Barnes, brother Vernon Edgar Thornsbury; and her sisters, Lois Jean Collins, Wanda Ruth Waddell, and Johnna Sue Johnson.A graveside service and interment was held Tuesday at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
