Rock Island resident and St. Paul, Minn. native Richard Clayton Codden, Jr., 70, was born July 4, 1953 and died Feb. 20, 2024 at his residence following an extended illness.
A United States Air Force veteran of the Vietnam era, route salesman with Frito Lay for 28 years and a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, he was the son of the late Richard Clayton and Pauline Lugaski Codden, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Richard Clayton Codden, III; brother, John Codden; son-in-law, David Flores and niece, Katherine Byrd.
He married Christine Clark of Aurora, IL on Jan. 8, 1977. In addition to his wife, Mr. Codden is survived by daughter, Michelle (David Spain) Codden of Shakopee, Minn.; daughter, Lynnette (Travis) Hess of Oklahoma City, Okla.; son, Donald Codden of Atlanta; grandchildren, Isaiah (Dilly) Codden, Angelo Sims, Allana Hess and Xavier Hess; siblings, Annette Byrd, Linda (John) Stilger, Kathy Cappiello, Edward Codden, George Codden, Bob (Kim) Codden and Michael Codden and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in McMinnville with Father Bala officiating. Visitation will be held from noon until time of service Saturday at the church. Visitation will be held beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 29 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud, Minn. with a funeral mass to follow at 11 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud, Minn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Catherine’s Catholic Church Building Fund.
