Odie Harrison Tallent, 68

Odie Harrison Tallent, 68, a DeKalb County resident and Lake City, TN native was born Feb. 25, 1952 and passed Aug. 16 at his residence following an extended illness.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a retired processing tech with Tenneco, a member of the First Baptist Church in Smithville, and the son of the late Odie Brown and Pearl Pauline Hawkins Tallent. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by sisters Peggy McCormick, Sheila Rogers, Faye (Sissy) Burton, Kathryn (Kat) Tallent, Brenda Tallent, and Sandy Luna.

Mr. Tallent was married to Patricia Ann Mathis Tallent of Smithville. He is also survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Josh and Jennifer Tallent of Smithville, and Jason Tallent of Dowelltown, three stepchildren, Louis (Louie) Taft Hendrixson III, Jill Marie Goneke, and Javon Ross Hendrixson, all of Smithville, four grandchildren, Nicholas Tallent, Nicholas Pendleton, Brantley Goneke, and Paris Grigsby, two sisters Shirley Layman of McMinnville and Karen Bogard of Kingsport, brother, Randy Kirk Hutchings of McMinnville, brother-in-law Webb Luna of McMinnville, several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service and interment was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Old Bybee Chapel Cemetery in Rock Island with Johnny Adcock officiating. Military grave rites were conducted by American Legion Post 173 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Old Bybee Chapel Cemetery Fund c/o High’s.
