Sparta resident and Warren County native Mildred Kathryn Hitchcock, 94, was born March 8, 1926 and died Dec. 6 at Life Care Center of Sparta following a brief illness.
A retired sales representative with J.C. Penney and a member of Gath Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late William Grimes and Axie Beatrice Cooley Hale. She was married on April 10, 1948 to Robert Carl Hitchcock, who preceded her in death Dec. 12, 1994. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert and J.T. Hale, sister Mary Lee Cantrell, grandson Ben Bohannon, and great-grandson Paul Thomas Batey.
She is survived by five children and spouses, LaJuana and David Palk of Sparta, Kathy Mathis of Lascassas, TN, Carla and Gary Pope of Springfield, TN, Julie and Don Bohannon of Monterey, TN and Steve Hitchcock of Sparta, 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at High’s Chapel with Ray Gilder officiating. Burial will follow at Gath Cemetery with Ted Batey officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m., and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at High’s. Masks and social distancing are requested.
