McMinnville resident and Rutherford County native Michael Wilson “Mikie” Hillis, 56, was born May 27, 1967 and died May 30, 2023 at his residence following an extended illness.
A dump truck driver with Hillis Group and recently baptized into Christ, he was the son of Gerald W. Hillis of McMinnville and the late Eula Lockhart Tinsley. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by grandparents, Lyndon and Wilda Hillis and Wilson and Mae Ellen Lockhart and father-in-law, Wilson Davis.
He was married to Becky Hillis of McMinnville on June 12, 2020. In addition to his father and wife, he is survived by children, Kaitlyn (Christopher) Harper of Winchester, and Austin Hillis and Stephanie Bates, Bradlee Gilmore and Dalton Stewart, all of McMinnville; sister, Michelle Hillis (Michael) Morgan of Mt. Juliet; step-father, Freddie W. Tinsley of Tullahoma; step-brothers, Blake (Tonya) Crawford of Rock Island, and Justin (Keri) Crawford of McMinnville; nieces, Morgan Crawford Chandler of McMinnville, Alaina Morris of Gallatin, and Rylie Crawford and Myka Crawford, both of Rock Island; nephew, Matthew Morris of Mt. Juliet; mother-in-law, Wanda Davis of Rock Island; sister-in-law, Tiereah Davis of Rock Island; brother-in-law, Kevin Davis of McMinnville and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 1 in High’s Chapel with Rick Lyles and Rickey Magness officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Warren County. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at High Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
