Rock Island resident and Jackson County native Michael Terry Bennett, 65, died Oct. 6 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville after a brief illness.
A general mechanic with the U.S. Postal Service and a member of the Church of Christ, he served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
The son of Elnora Polson Bennett of McMinnville and the late Finis A. Smartt, he is survived by his wife, Sharon Dunlap Bennett of McMinnville; children and spouse, Angie and Greg Carter, and Tracy Bennett, all of Rock Island, and Kelly Bennett of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Hayden and Holden Carter, Henslea Carter and Delaney Bennett; brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Jane Bennett of McMinnville; sister and brother-in-law, Sheri and Jim Trent of Beauford, S.C.; nieces and nephews.
Services were held Tuesday at High’s Chapel with Ben Bailey and Richard Bowman officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Warren County Rescue Squad Toy Drive, Habitat for Humanity, Kids of the Community, or your favorite charity.
High Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
