McMinnville resident and Warren County native Mary West Curtis, 91, was born Nov. 25, 1923 and died March 27 at Spring City Care & Rehab in Spring City following an extended illness.
She was a homemaker, and in her retirement years, a school cafeteria monitor where she befriended many children, teachers and staff. An active member of First Baptist Church until her illness, she was the daughter of the late Hester L. and Daisy Cantrell West. She was married to T.J. Curtis, who preceded her in death in 1984. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brother, I.D. West; and two sisters, Willie Mae Cates and Virginia Beckwith.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Trevathan Landreth and Harry Landreth of Spring City and Susan Stewart Wideman and Dave Wideman of McMinnville; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jeremy and Maggie Stewart of Malibu, Calif., Justin and Beth Stewart of McMinnville, Allison and Brandon Lowry of Chattanooga, and Callie McNamee of Murfreesboro; four step-grandchildren, Michelle and Doug Jones of Cookeville, Doug Landreth of Navarre, Fla., Susan and Rich Everitt of Augusta, Ga., and David and Denise Landreth of Savannah; nine great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Martin of McMinnville; and two brothers, Luther West of McMinnville and Tom West of Huntsville, Ala.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at High’s Chapel with Dave Wideman, Allison Lowry and Brandon Lowry officiating. Burial will follow at Whorton Springs Cemetery in Smithville. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday at High’s.
