Mary Ellen Smith, 70, of Rock Island (Eastside community) died Feb. 1 at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born Sept. 17, 1945 in Warren County and was a retired employee of both McMinnville Garment Company and Yorozu Corporation and a member of Madison Street Baptist Church. Ms. Smith was preceded in death by parents, Dean and Clara Lee Muncey Whitman; son, David Smith; sister, Gertrude Neal, and brothers, Carl, Howard, Jay, and Dean Whitman Jr.
Survivors include a son Darryl (Jill) Smith, grandchildren, Haley, Kinsey, and Kayla Smith and Jacob Alarcon, and sisters, Georgia Lee Turosky, Linda Joyce (Jimmy) Gooch, Christine (Finis) Turner and Sue (Richard) Manis. Several nieces, nephews, family members and friends also survive.
Funeral service was held Thursday at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Garland Lorance and Harlon Simmons officiated. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.mcminnvillefuneralhome.com.
