Mary Ellen Smith, 70, of Rock Island (Eastside community) died Feb. 1 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born Sept. 17, 1945 in Warren County and was a retired employee of both McMinnville Garment Company and Yorozu Corporation and a member of Madison Street Baptist Church. Ms. Smith was preceded in death by parents, Dean and Clara Lee Muncey Whitman; son, David Smith; sister, Gertrude Neal, and brothers, Carl, Howard, Jay, and Dean Whitman Jr. Survivors include a son Darryl (Jill) Smith, grandchildren, Haley, Kinsey, and Kayla Smith and Jacob Alarcon, and sisters, Georgia Lee Turosky, Linda Joyce (Jimmy) Gooch, Christine (Finis) Turner and Sue (Richard) Manis.
