Altamont resident and Grundy County native Mae Ellen Barnett, 79, died Aug. 17 at her home after an extended illness.A homemaker and a member of Long Mountain Community Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late William T. and Myrtle Sanders Meeks, and was preceded in death by brothers, D.W., Claudie, Orville and Willie Raymond Meeks; sisters, Mabel Lee Meeks, Ida Mae Moore and Marie Madewell and son, James Clendenon.She is survived by her husband, Bob Gene Barnett; son, Ronald Roberts of McMinnville; daughters, Elaine Sparks of Cullman, Ala., and Vicki Thomas of McMinnville; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and five step-grandchildren; sisters, Jewel Rigby of Chattanooga and Della Pease of Beersheba; and half-brothers, Tommy Meeks of Fayetteville and James King of McMinnville.Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fall Creek Cemetery in Grundy County with Ed Fults officiating.
