Louis Stephen Smith, 75, of Shelbyville died Monday, March 3 at Select Specialty Hospital in Nashville.
Mr. Smith was born May 26, 1938 in Warren County to the late Louis Pitson and Pauline Brown Smith. He was owner/ manager of the Western Auto and Firestone Store that were Shelbyville landmark businesses. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he was past president and member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. He was past president of the Bedford County UT Alumni Association, former member of Shelbyville Lions Club, chairman of the Shelbyville Planning Commission, and past president of the Tennessee Retail Federation. Mr. Smith was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville, where he was former deacon.
He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Louis Kerry Smith.
Survivors include his wife of over 52 years, Margaret Taylor Smith of Shelbyville; a son, Richard Taylor Smith, and his wife Kathy of Shelbyville; a daughter, Mary Margaret Smith Tarutis, and her husband Larry of Fort Myers, Fla.; a sister, Katherine Smith Puckett of Nashville; three grandchildren, Taylor Smith, Gage Smith, and Jackson Smith.
Funeral services were held Thursday at First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Lindsey Wade officiated with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville Stained Glass Window Fund.
Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
