Lewis Ray Cope, Sr., 79, of McMinnville died Monday, April 30, at his residence.He was born Oct. 22, 1932 in DeKalb County and was a retired truck driver with Riddle Trucking, and a member of Charles Creek the Baptist Church. Mr. Cope was preceded in death by his parents James Madison and Exie Anah Adcock Cope; his first wife, Joyce Campbell Cope; sisters, Versa Marler, Goldie Cantrell, Vella Barnes, Dorothy (Dot) Cantrell, Ressie Cantrell, Ozine Malone, and Noela Cope, and brothers Henry, Haston, Anthony, and Howard Cope, and stepchildren, Linda Herrin, Brenda Bratcher, and James Hill.Survivors include wife, Mary Lou Cope, children Lewis Ray (Linda) Cope Jr. of Lewisburg, Judy (Orville) Cole of McMinnville; brother, Carl (Verna) Cope of Sparta; grandchildren, Kenneth (Tammy) Lance of Nashville, Lewis Ray Cope III (Traye) and Chris Cope of McMinnville; great-grandchildren, Andrew Lance, Shelton Cope, Madison Cope, Hennessee Cope, step-grandchildren, Eric Self (Daffy), Kerry Self (Cissie), Jennifer Hill, Rhiannon Barnes, Monica Hill, Terry Smith (Emily), Sherry Randles (Mike); 10 step-great-grandchildren, stepsons-in-law Ned Herrin and Yogi Bratcher. Several nieces, nephews, family members, and friends also survive.Funeral service is 2 p.m. today at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel.
