McMinnville resident and Warren County native Laura Mae Gibbs, 89, was born Sept. 5, 1923 and died Nov. 17 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following an extended illness.
A homemaker and member of the Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late John Floyd and Josephine “Josie” Mayfield Whitworth. She was married to John Austin Gibbs Jr., who preceded her in death. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd Jr., E.L. and Harold Wayne Whitworth.
She is survived by one daughter, Beatrice Whitman of McMinnville; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Vicki Gibbs of Rock Island; daughter, Patricia Koontz of Easley, S.C.; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Lillie Smith of McMinnville, Deamie Moody and Jenny Hillis, both of Rock Island, and Joyce Glover of Baldwin Park, Calif.; two brothers, Joe Whitworth of Quebeck and Benny Whitworth of Spencer; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral service was held Tuesday in High’s Chapel with Titus Ward officiating. Burial followed at Crain Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County.
High Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
