Mr. Kevin Edward Lawrence, 47, of Viola, died Sunday, May 5, at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Born on March 1, 1966 in McMinnville, Kevin was of the Presbyterian faith and served in so many aspects of his community and the state of Tennessee. Mr. Lawrence was serving as mayor of Viola, fire chief of Viola Valley Volunteer Fire Department, president of the Warren County A&L Fair, businessman of the Tennessee Fire Chief’s Association, Viola Valley Homecoming Committee, and active with the annual decoration at Mt. Zion Cemetery. He was former fire chief of McMinnville, working various positions throughout his career there, a 31-year member of the Viola Valley Fire Department, worked with the Drug Task Force and the Division of Forestry, and was the former president of The Tennessee Fair Association Board and current active member. Kevin also was a member of the following organizations: Tennessee Fire Chief’s Association, Tennessee Fireman’s Association, IAAI Association, Tennessee Fire Service and many more.
Mr. Lawrence was preceded in death by his father Russell Edward Lawrence and is survived by his mother Wanda Lawrence, maternal grandmother Stella Turner, paternal grandmother Dorothy Swan, aunts Brenda Campbell (Earl David), Linda Bell (Latton), Lequita Maxwell (Gene), and Nancy Ray (Greg), and uncles Charles Swan (Diane) and Monty Swan (Cindy). Numerous great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins, and friends also survive.
Funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. The Tennessee Fire Chief’s Association will be presiding. The Tennessee Fire Chief’s Association, Tennessee Fireman’s Association, IAAI Association, Tennessee Fire Service, Viola Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Members of the Warren County A&L Fair Board, and the Tennessee Fair Association are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow at Viola Cemetery. The Lawrence family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., and again Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
