Josie Beatrice Whitman, 78

McMinnville resident and Van Buren County native Josie Beatrice Whitman, 78, was born March 30, 1942 and passed away Sept. 5 at her residence following an extended illness.

A retired secretary with Stanton Oil Company and a member of Oasis Church, she was the daughter of the late John William Austin and Laura Mae Whitworth Gibbs Jr. She was married to Dean Whitman, who preceded her in death Jan. 14, 2012. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by son William Joe March and grandson Michael Anthony Betts.

Mrs. Whitman is survived by five children, Michael Keith Combs of McMinnville, John Anthony Combs of McMinnville, Michelle Marie (David) Betts of Murfreesboro, Melissa Mae (Roger) Farrah of McMinnville, and Rebecca Jo (Delane) Thomas of Manchester, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, brother Johnny (Vickie) Gibbs of Rock Island, sister Pattie (Bill) Koontz of South Carolina, and several nieces and nephews also survive

A graveside service and inurnment will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday Sept. 10, at Crain Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County with Sid Stanton officiating. Friends and family are to meet at the cemetery. There will be no visitation or service at High’s. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com.
