McMinnville resident and Warren County native Joice Mayes, 79, was born Jan. 26, 1934 and died Aug. 11 at her residence following a brief illness.A sales clerk with JC Penney, secretary with Warren County Livestock, homemaker and member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church, she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Ruth Taylor Milstead.Mrs. Mayes was married June 29, 1952 to Howard Mayes of McMinnville. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kerry and Lindsay Mayes of McMinnville; two grandsons, Jake and Will Mayes, both of McMinnville; sister, Elaine Mason of Knoxville; two brothers, Jimmy and Pete Milstead, both of McMinnville; sisters-in-law, Betty Walker and Bobbie Mayes, both of McMinnville, and several nieces and nephews.Funeral service was held Tuesday, Aug. 13, at High’s Chapel with Chris Keele officiating.
